Workshop: miRNA Bioinformatics
In recent years, thousands of microRNAs (miRNA) have been found in numerous species. To prepare a simple approach to this information, numerous databases for miRNA records have been established. The selection of the correct database can be laborious and prolonged, especially for scientists who do not have experience in this field. To facilitate access to these resources, we have classified the available databases and have described them. This workshop introduces available miRNA databases that will enable researchers with different backgrounds to find suitable miRNA-related bioinformatics web tools and relevant microRNA information rapidly.
Dr. Seyed Hamid Aghaee-Bakhtiari
Assistant professor of Bioinformatics Research Group
Department of Medical Biotechnology and Nanotechnology
Mashhad University of Medical Sciences
Dr Aghaee-Bakhtiari, is an assistant professor of Bioinformatics Research Group and Department of Medical Biotechnology and Nanotechnology at the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Iran. He developed miRandb database, a meta-database of online services for microRNA research, which was published in briefings in bioinformatics. He compiled two book chapters for non-coding RNA databases for springer. He is developing several databases about miRNA and disease relationships, miRNA target prediction and miRNA target validation. His research has focused on microRNA bioinformatics and microRNAs role in cancers and cardiovascular diseases as biomarkers and therapeutic agents.
