A novel cobaltiodide melamine functionalized graphene oxide (CoI-Melamine-FGO) is synthesized as an efficient nanofiller (NF) to enhance the photovoltaic performance of the ionic liquids(ILs) based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC). This NF is unique with regards to featuring active sites of melamine and cobalt, which can generate redox-active spices on the graphene oxide surface. The highly dispersed hydrophilic CoI-Melamine-FGO strongly improved the ionic conductivity and ion diffusivity of the corresponding ILs matrix, essential for quasi-solid-state DSSCs operation. This study shows the addition of an optimized amount of CoI-Melamine-FGO as 0.75% wt forms a π-π interaction-shielding model between aromatic systems of binary ILs-based electrolytes, and basal planes of graphene sheets, which have high efficiency for increasing both the open-circuit voltage and the short-circuit current density. The cell utilizing 0.75 wt% CoI-Melamine-FGO NF increased the energy conversion efficiency from 4.277 %, the established value for referenced ILs-based device, to 7.287 % with 70.37% enhancement. The optimized device maintains 92% of its initial efficiency value after an 840h stability test at 60 °C. This research will open up a new way to develop the photovoltaic performance of a quasi-solid-state electrolyte.
