Resveratrol (trans-3,4',5 tryhidrostilbene) is a natural polyphenolic phytoalexin present in fruits and vegetables displaying pleiotropic health benefits (1). Recently, this compound has received considerable attention, especially for its neuroprotective and anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties, which can explain its efficacy in managing neurological disorders (2,3). Nonetheless, its clinical use is associated with poor systemic bioavailability and insolubility. The nano-formulation of resveratrol eliminates these shortcomings (4). In the present study, we explored comparative proliferation and anti-apoptotic effects of nano-resveratrol and resveratrol on adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AT-MSCs). After AT-MSCs isolation and characterization, synthesis of gold nanoparticle products and characterization of gold nano-particle products were done. The effects of nano-resveratrol and free resveratrol on the proliferation were evaluated by MTT test. We also used flow cytometry assay to measure the percentage of apoptotic MSCs. Our finding indicated nano-resveratrol (1.25, 2.5, 5μM) exhibited significant increasing effects on MSCs viability. Furthermore, nano-resveratrol protected ATMSCs against apoptosis at 2.5 and 5 μM. Overall, resveratrol and its nano-formulation, at lower concentrations, exhibited more efficacy on AT-MSCs with a better effect toward nano-resveratrol. Hence, nano-resveratrol can considerate as complementary treatments for the patients who have received MSCs
