Abstract: Topical/transdermal drug delivery has always been associated with the stratum corneum barrier. It does not permit molecules with a molecular weight of less than 500 daltons such as peptides/proteins of Bee venom (BV) to pass through the skin. Nanoemulsions (NEs) as drug delivery systems in nanometer-scale can encapsulate BV to water-in-oil formulation. This study aimed to evaluate pass rate BV through the skin by NEs. Water-in-oil (W/O) NEs were prepared with aqueous phase (Aq) contents of 3, 5, 7, and 9 % of BV by a mixture of Span 80, Tween 80, and olive oil by a low energy method. Then skin permeation rates were evaluated by Franz diffusion cell. BV concentrations were 1250, and 5000 µg/ml. The skin permeation studies showed that NEs could pass BV through the skin depending on BV concentration in the internal phase. In conclusion, peptides of BV can pass from the topical route by W/O NEs.
