The high specific surface area, abundance of mesopores and very low density of aerogels cause they have found many potential applications in various fields, including lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen production, storage reactors, as well as development of aerogle matrix for nanoparticles supports. The aim of this study was to synthesize carbon aerogels using polymerization of resorcinol and formaldehyde monomers using hexamethylenetetramine as a gelation catalyst in isopropanol medium; the supercritical drying method was considered as the method of choice for drying organic aerogels obtained from the sol-gel process in this study.For this aim, carbon aerosols were synthesized using polymerization of resorcinol-furfural monomers and hexamethylenetetramine as a gelation catalyst in isopropanol and using supercritical carbon dioxide (srCO2) drying process. The aerogels were characterized by nitrogen adsorption isotherms and FE-SEM. The influence of pressure of drying process on the final properties of aerogels has been investigated. The results show that increasing the supercritical fluid pressure in the gel drying step led to an increase in specific surface area. By performing surface activation operation under carbon dioxide atmosphere, up to 50% increase in specific surface area in the samples could be due to the joining of micro-pores trapped inside the skeletal structure to the interconnected network of porosities.
