Abstract: Current commercially available dental barrier membranes that generally can be classified as resorbable and non-resorbable categories have yet to achieve a perfect design. In this study, silk fibroin (SF)/poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) absorbable membrane was fabricated by electrospinning technique for application in bone regeneration (GBR). The ideal membrane has some features such as biocompatibility, ability to prevent fibroblast migration into the bone defect, cell adhesion, good handling, and cost-effectiveness. A defectless morphology and the average pore size of the membrane was observed using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). Also, improvement of surface hydrophilicity was observed through the contact angle test. The final thickness of trifold-decompressed SF/PCL nanofiber was suitable for clinical handling. Overall, electrospun PCL/SF nanofibers represent the mechanical benefits of PCL and improved biological properties of SF and have promising potential for application in GBR field.
