Polyacrylonitrile/ZIF-8 Nanocomposites: Fabricaton, Characterization, and Investigation of Their Antibacterial Activity Z. Ansari-Asla*, S. Darvish Pour-Mogahia, E. Darabpour b a Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, Ahvaz, Iran b Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, Ahvaz, Iran *email@example.com Abstract: Three nanocomposite films of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and the Zn(II) zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-8), PAN/x%ZIF-8 (x=10, 30), were prepared. PAN used as a binder to shape the ZIF-8 nanoparticles. The as-obtained nanocomposites were characterized by FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared), XRD (X-ray diffraction), and SEM (scanning electron microscope) techniques. The antibacterial activity of these films was also studied. The FT-IR and PXRD patterns confirmed the successful incorporation of the ZIF-8 nanoparticles into the PAN matrix. The ZIF-8 nanoparticles dispersion was exhibited by the SEM images. The antibacterial experiments showed that PAN/30%ZIF-8 nanocomposite had a lethal effect on E. coli cells, suggesting its potential application as novel antibacterial materials for the development of self-cleaning materials.
