This study investigated the role of the adipic acid in the enhancement of anti-corrosion performance of hydroxyapatite coating applied on AZ31 Mg alloy. Initially, hydroxyapatite coating was applied on the AZ31 Mg alloy using the electrochemical method and in the second step, the coated samples were immersed in 1 g/lit adipic acid solution during different immersion times. The microstructure and corrosion behaviour of different coated samples were studied by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Direct Current (DC) Polarization technique, respectively. The highest anti-corrosion resistance was related to the sample coated with hydroxyapatite coating, which was improved by immersing in 1 g/lit adipic acid solution for 5 minutes. FE-SEM images also show the flower-like structures that is characteristic of the hydroxyapatite coating. The layer appeared on the flower-like structures that is characteristic of the hydroxyapatite coating. The layer that appeared on the flower-like structure showed that adipic acid could successfully make a film on the hydroxyapatite. The improved performance of the modified coating could be attributed to adipic acid film formation and deposition of insoluble salts on the surface.
